I had chosen to do physical design. The following are 3 alternative prototypes for my project based on the needs determined from previous activities.

For my Car review website, my identified representative users are male, the majority of age are about 16-30 and from the surveys taken male aged about 16-30 love cars even though they have no knowledge about them because the main reason why they love it are the design of the cars, and its performance and speed. Different age, gender, and job status has different taste, for example, businessmen like roomy and spacious cars, and for that reason I also included the businessmen representatives.

I also setup another survey to obtain useful results to build this website, asked what are the users' preferences on each prototype in relation to the location of the menu bar, links, videos, pictures, banner, date and time, and etc.

The results are that the placement of the navigation menu bar, 75% of the surveyors, chose it to be on either the left side or the top of the website, sectioned the menu into categories (which will be later advised), pictures and videos must be related to the contents that that page has, and news and updates must be current. 97% of the surveyors chose not to have advertisement of any kinds on the website, 60% chose the color of the website to be cold colored more than hot colored in nearly of every page.

As the result, the prototype I will be develop further is Low Fidelity Prototype Design - 3.

Activity 1 : Speech Recognition (Input)

Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Advantages:
  • Type as fast as you talk
  • Doesn't take long to learn
  • Probably handle any accent
  • Improve with time
  • Wirelessly type as talking around the room
  • Many cool features
  • 99% accuracy
  • Reduce the amount of time typing
Disadvantages:
  • Not perfect
  • Recognition mistakes
  • Refuses to learn some words
  • Performance varies
  • Can be difficult sometimes
  • Accent recognition
Comparing MacSpeech Dictate to Dragon NaturallySpeaking, I would say that MacSpeech is better than the Dragon because it has lots more features for user to interact with such as the side bar that shows other possibilities of the word said, for example, if you say your name and definitely that the program won't recognize it, and so the possibilities of the words can be added it the program dictionary.

Activity 2 : Text of Speech (Output)
Advantages:
  • Useful for some people with low volume voice
  • Useful for broadcasting in public places
Disadvantages:
  • Speeches are in robotic voices
  • Sometimes the program doesn't recognize the text and therefore, wrong speech can create misunderstanding
Three places where you can text to speech are:

  • University Lectures Theater
  • Public place such as park, and community center
